Favorite Author: Seth Godin
Have you heard of Seth Godin? He is the author of eighteen best selling books. Some of our favorite selections are: Linchpin: Are You Indispensable?, Purple Cow: Transform Your Business by Being Remarkable, and Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us.
Linchpin Godin writes, "Every day I meet people who have so much to give but have been bullied enough or frightened enough to hold it back. It's time to stop complying with the system and draw your own map. You have brilliance in you, your contribution is essential, and the art you create is precious. Only you can do it, and you must." The whole manifesto of this book is based around the fact that you can become indispensable. It's a book we believe fosters the ideas of being a self-starter, a team player, being passionate and present in your work. All of the ideas ultimately lead to fulfilling success for the employee and for the company benefiting from indispensable linchpins.
Purple Cow Be remarkable. That is the crux of one of Godin's most popular books out there. Be innovative, remarkable, unique, new-- be a purple cow. The book is most specifically geared towards marketing but there is universal value in the purple cow concept. Seth writes for Fast Company saying: "It is a plea for originality, for passion, guts, and daring. Not just because going through life with passion and guts beats the alternative (which it does), but also because it’s the only way to be successful. Today, the one sure way to fail is to be boring. Your one chance for success is to be remarkable."
Tribes In this book Godin presents the three steps to building a tribe: the desire to change things, the ability to connect a tribe, and the willingness to lead. These steps hold special value for Jovian Concepts because of why the company was founded. Jovian Concepts was built upon the desire for a company to feel more like a family, run with concern and the best of intentions for everyone. That design has given Jovian Concepts the great ability to build a tribe of down to earth, hard working employees. Our two favorite quotes: "Do you believe in what you do? Every day? It turns out that belief happens to be a brilliant strategy." and “Leadership, on the other hand, is about creating change that you believe in.”
