Many people wonder what the most helpful type of food items are for a food pantry.
According to the Maryland Food Bank, the list includes easy-to-open, healthy options:
Fruit cups (in juice) MOST NEEDED
Rice MOST NEEDED
shelf-stable milk
breakfast items
peanut butter
jelly
100% juice
pasta
low sodium pasta sauce
instant mashed potatoes
canned chicken, salmon, tuna
boxed 'meal makers'
canned soups
canned beans
nuts or seeds
canned vegetables
toiletries
Some are surprised to see toiletries on the list -- but consider the cost of some basic grooming items and you'll understand why these everyday items are so appreciated!
Please keep in mind when shopping for your donations:
Pop-top cans are preferred so that recipients won't need a can opener to use the items.
Families and individuals use Food Banks. Please do not send in 'bulk' or 'industrial sized' items.
The Jovian Concepts food drive for the Maryland Food Bank runs now through February 13. Items can be dropped off at our headquarters where you'll find bins conveniently located in the lobby. If you are out of state or out of ideas, gift cards to Wegmans are also welcomed and can be mailed to:
